The experience between Film and Architecture is a responsive environment where multiple
perspectives occur simultaneously. Between the movement-image and the object- experience is the movement-experience. As with physical reality, time is constrained, but movement between perspectives is not. The result is an event composed of, yet outset from Film and Architecture. Space is not physical, it is narrative. It is not a system meant to be catalogued in full, nor is it an answer to a problem. Cinema is an apparatus to blur a viewer’s ability to distinguish between reality and fiction. Between life and death. If the film is a dream and the built environment is being awake, then this is a lucid dream. To envision and enact an architectural experience, designing light, sound, space, movement, program, and structure, with a four-dimensional narrative, but without letting it exist as disciplined film or architecture. The discipline of Architecture is only a single facet of the architectural. This is another.
JŌJ thought that making self-gratifying buildings for no sake but their own was a waste of time. (paradigms of the discipline, not the professionals)
JŌJ thought that storytelling was less of a waste.
JŌJ made a new type of storytelling that was Architectural and Cinematic but was not Architecture nor Film.
JŌJ wanted to make architects feel more important by making Architecture less important.
It worked, but most of the architects didn't realize it.
